Ken Zyer

Ken Zyer was born in Chicago before moving to Orland Park and graduating from Carl Sandburg High School. Ken began his radio career as a mid-day DJ hosting the “Trading Post” on Kankakee’s WBYG in June of 1980. In 1984, WBYG was purchased by Milner Broadcasting, changing it’s call letters to WBUS “The Bus” and it’s format to Top 40. It was the end of Ken’s “Trading Post” and the beginning of a long and distinguished career in broadcast Journalism. Inspired by his childhood hero, Walter Cronkite, Ken relentlessly pursued an opportunity to become News Director for WBUS. That opportunity came in June 1987. Since then, Ken Zyer has rewritten the book on how local news should be covered and presented. His passion for news & community has never wavered. Today, as one of the most respected journalist in Northeastern Illinois & Northwestern Indiana, he continues the tradition of excellence on all of Milner Broadcasting stations: WVLI, WFAV, WIVR and WYUR. No other journalist enjoys the level of respect & trust of local law enforcement, political leaders, listeners and community that Ken Zyer receives. Milner Broadcasting looks forward to celebrating Ken’s 30 years in broadcast journalism in June, 2017.
