Government Closings

State of Indiana – Indiana’s primary election will move from May 5 to June 2 because of the virus.  All dates corresponding with the primary election will be moved by 28 days to reflect the new date of the primary.

Iroquois County Highway Department – will be closed to the general public beginning Monday, March 23rd until further notice.  All normal County functions will remain in operation MondayFriday, 7:30a.m.4:00p.m. County Services will be available to the public by appointment only.

Economic Alliance of Kankakee County – has shifted to disaster response mode. Staff is working remotely to coordinate with federal, state and local officials; our workforce, utility, finance and other core partners; as well as our primary employers and small business owners. Our efforts are guided by established disaster response and recovery protocols outlined by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, and International Economic Development Council.


Kankakee Community College – will continue its shift to online-based coursework until the end of the Spring 2020 semester as a measure to combat the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).


Kankakee Community College Foundation Women’s Giving Circle Event – Event scheduled for April 20, 2020 cancelled.  Will be rescheduled at a later date.


Benton County, Indiana – declared a state of emergency.


City Of Watseka – Administration Building closed until further notice.


Kankakee County – The Treasurer, County Clerk and Supervisor of Assessments offices in the County Administration Building on east court street will be closed beginning Monday until April 3 rd. Visitors will be by appointment only.


Village of Manteno – Easter Egg Dash cancelled and due to the unknown future, we will not be rescheduling.


Newton County, Indiana – Officials say they will close their offices and facilities to the public at the end of the day today until future notice.  All public use of county buildings and meeting rooms is discontinued for now.


Iroquois County Administrative Center – Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, the Iroquois County Administrative Center will be closed to the general public until further notice.  All normal County functions will remain in operation Monday–Friday, 8:30a.m.–
4:30p.m.

Bourbonnais Township Park District – All facilities are closed, but parks are open. All events, programs, and trips are cancelled until April 8th.


The Village of Bourbonnais is shutting down the administration building and the public works facilities to visitors.  The police department will remain open.  The Community Prayer Breakfast has been postponed and the Easter Egg Hunt has been cancelled.


Newton County – The Newton County Board of commissioners have ordered all Newton County offices and facilities closed to the public. They say anyone that needs to do business with the county will need to make an appointment with the individual offices. Public will not be allowed in county buildings or meeting rooms until further notice.


Kankakee and Iroquois Counties Circuit Court – Chief Judge Michael D. Kramer of the 21st Circuit Court has announced that many of the civil and criminal cases in the 21st Judicial Circuit, which consists of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, will be postponed for 30 days. That period starts today and runs through April 17th. There will be some emergency cases heard by the courts, but most will be postponed during that period.


Jerome Combs Detention Center – All visitations at the Jerome Combs detention center until future notice will be conducted from remote locations.  Also, in house jail programs conducted by outside volunteers have been suspended.

Flower Shoppe Inc., – Rt. 50 in Kankakee – Closed until further notice.


Joy’s Hallmark – closed but call 815-937-4309 between 10-11am or 3-4pm daily, curbside service is available to all customers.  You may also message the store on Facebook.  Located inside the Meadowview shopping center in Kankakee.

Limite Hours:  Due to the recent coronavirus pandemic, the American Dental Association and our governor is recommending that we only treat patients with True Emergencies, so starting on March 23, 2020, our office will be open for limited hours to accommodate patients requiring immediate care. All other appointments will be accommodated at a later date. When deemed safe our office will contact each patient to schedule appropriately.

St. Anne Catholic Church – As per government mandate, our remaining Fish Fry Dinners (March 20 and April 3) have been cancelled.

Riverside Health Fitness Center – closed effective 7pm on March 19th

GSU Foundation Legends and Lions UnGala 2020 – POSTPONED until further notice


Salvation Army 

  • The Dine-In Soup Kitchen program is suspended until further notice. Alternatively, “to-go” lunches will still be available Monday-Friday from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
  • The walkthrough food pantry program is suspended until further notice. Alternatively, pre-packaged food pantry boxes will be available at the Social Ministries office door (530 E. Court St.) Tuesday & Thursdays from 1:00pm-3:00pm while resources remain available.
  • We are continuing to offer sheltering services. Case Management for those seeking assistance with shelter, financial/utility assistance, and other case management services is available by appointment, as the waiting area will be closed to avoid close quarters crowds gathering. To make an appointment, call 815-933-8421. If you do not have access to a telephone, you can make an appointment at the Social Ministries Office door (530 E. Court St.)
  • VITA tax preparation services are suspended tentatively until April 1.
  • Bible Study and Women’s Fellowship Groups are suspended until further notice.
  • Family Thrift Store operations will be closed to the general public until further notice, and donations of goods will no longer be accepted at the store.
  • Sunday Morning Worship services will be live-streamed on The Salvation Army Kankakee Facebook page in place of traditionally meeting.
  • The Administrative Office will be closed to walk-ins, but staff will remain available by phone/email during business hours. Pastoral Care is also available to those in need.

B & J Sewing and Quilting Center in Bourbonnais – will be closing their store beginning March 19th…they do plan to open April 1st.


Community Grief Center – Grand Opening scheduled for March 27th & 28th has been postpone.


Mary Poppins Jr  – Cancelled until further notice.


Dunlap Vision – The office will be closed to non-essential or routine services from Wednesday March 18th until Monday March 30th.


Bourbonnais Little League Baseball will be postponed until May 11th


Easterseals Joliet Region – Annual Telethon – April 4th 12 pm – 8 pm will be pre-recorded and aired and casted online.


Kankakee Public Library – The Kankakee Public Library’s Board of Trustees has decided to temporarily close the library starting Wednesday, March 18. We are tentatively planning to reopen on Tuesday, March 31 at 9am. However, the situation is fluid and an extension of this closing may be necessary. Please refer to the library’s Facebook page or website, lions-online.org, for the most up to date information.

If you have materials currently checked out fines will not be incurred. Renewals will be automatic and the materials can be returned upon reopening. All programming, meetings, and rentals are postponed during the closing period. If your organization was set to meet at the library please contact them directly for more detailed information.

Manteno Public Library – Closing early Monday (3/16) at 6:00 p.m. Library will be closed all day from Tuesday (3/17) to March 30th. Pending reopening on March 31st. All programs have been suspended until further notice. Check Facebook for updates.


Bourbonnais Metro Centre – will only be open to individuals with appointments.  All meetings of 10 or more people are cancelled until further notice.  Pass and token purchases at the Bourbonnais Metro Centre will require an appointment. Benefit Acces appointments are suspended until April 7.  All ADA in person interviews are suspended until April 7, 2020. Applicants will be contacted for a phone interview.  At this time all River Valley Metro services are running as scheduled. Please monitor rivervalleymetro.com for updates.


Gibson City Hospital – is instituting a COVID-19 protocol.   Through the 31 st, all visitors will be screened and anyone with a temperature over 100 will be refused entry.  Additionally visitors are being limited to legal guardians of minors and end of life hospice visits and everyone must enter the hospital at the main lobby or ER.  All other doors will be locked.


Tractor for a Cure – Rescheduled from March 21st – April 19th.


Olivet Nazarene University – Olivet has announced that due to recent changes in operations at the University, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is cancelled for this semester.


Old Courthouse Museum – Museum closed to the public, April program postponed. The Iroquois County Historical Society had planned its annual meeting for Wednesday, April 8. This meeting was to be followed by a presentation featuring an Abraham Lincoln speaker. These two events have been postponed but will be rescheduled at a later time.


Quality Inn’s Bridal Expo – originally Sunday 22nd, is cancelled and postponed until further notice.


Knights of Columbus – Bingo is cancelled for the next two weeks, along with the Friday Fish Fries.


Riverside Community Credit Union – Lobbies will both be closed starting March 18th.  The drive thru will be open and inside to do loans by appointment.


Kankakee Area YMCA – In accordance with the governors order to close fitness centers in the state by tomorrow  the Kankakee Area YMCA has announced that they are shutting down until further notice.  All this to help stop the spread of coronavirus.  Childcare remains open on a limited basis for essential workers per DCFS, CDC and local health department guidelines.  Visit: k3ymca.org for updates

South Newton School Corporations – South Newton School Corporations officials say they are extending spring break to begin on Monday to help stop the spread of coronavirus. South newton students will remain on break tough March 27th with e-learning days from the 30 th through April 3 rd.   Then they hope to return to a normal school day on the 4th.
