30 Years for Setting Fatal Fire

30 Years for Setting Fatal Fire

A man who intentionally set a fire in a multi-unit apartment building in Kankakee, killing two young boys, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday in Kankakee County Court.  65 year old Alex Sawyer took a plea deal in April to one count of first degree murder.  4 year old Justice Stewart and 2 year old JuShawn Watson did not make it out of the two story building in the 800 block of West Station Street in the early morning hours of April 13, 2016.  According to the Daily Journal, Sawyer started the fire because the landlord had failed to return at 550 dollar security deposit when he rented there in 2010.
